Three-storeyed building partially sunk in KPHB - Ground floor goes undeground
We have seen Terrorists going underground and politicians going underground, but a three-storeyed building sank into the ground in the higher middle-class locality of Kukatpaly township on Wednesday morning.
The newly constructed building was actually an expansion of a three-decade-old MIG quarter in the ninth phase of KPHB Colony. While the house owner lived on the first floor, another couple lived on the second floor and a bachelor rented out the penthouse.
This exposes the failure of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) fying the structural stability of the building before giving permission for construction of additional floors on the building.
The elegant blue-coloured building began tilting and sinking around 11 a.m. Neighbours who watched the building sink said it initially tilted and then slowly sank in.
The buildings adjacent to it too were damaged by the rubble that fell on them. A three-storeyed house behind the sunked bulding had its top two floors completely damaged.
GHMC authorities have started demolishing the structure. Police said cases will be registered against the owner.
